Following our recent field evaluation, IKM Thoppur has launched the first phase of our food security initiative: The Rice Bag Distribution Project. While the floods washed away many household stocks and damaged local crops, we are working to ensure that no plate in our community remains empty.
🌾 Why Rice Matters Right Now
In the wake of a disaster, access to a reliable food source is the first step toward dignity.
- Bulk Support: Each 25kg bag provides a family of five with enough starch for nearly a month.
- Shelf Stability: Unlike fresh produce, rice can be stored safely even in humid, post-flood conditions.
- Economic Relief: By providing this staple, we help families divert their meager savings toward urgent house repairs and medicine.
Our Distribution Impact
| Phase | Target Area | Number of Families | Status |
| Phase 1 | Low-lying Thoppur East | 150 Families | Completed |
| Phase 2 | Riverbank Settlements | 200 Families | In Progress |
| Phase 3 | Surrounding Rural Clusters | 100 Families | Pending Funds |
Transparency & Accountability
We believe in serving with transparency. Our volunteers have hand-delivered these bags directly to the identified "high-priority" households—specifically focusing on widows, the elderly, and those with young children who were most affected by the water levels.
"A bag of rice is more than food; it is the peace of mind that my children will eat tonight while I figure out how to rebuild our walls." — Local Resident, Thoppur
